The Veterans Business Battle began in 2015 as a partnership between EO of Houston and Rice Veterans in Business Association with a goal of inspiring and encouraging our nation’s military heroes to become successful entrepreneurs.
Each year, the two-day event gives military veterans an opportunity to pitch business ideas to investors and lenders for a chance to raise capital. During the competition, finalists attend workshops geared toward businesses in early stages of development, have the opportunity to perfect their pitch and receive feedback from professionals, network with potential investors and learn from other entrepreneurial success stories.
With more than $2.3 million of investment offers extended thus far, it’s the largest veteran business competition in the country.
The mission of the Rice Veterans in Business Association (VIBA) is two-fold. First, we will provide assistance to veterans transitioning from military service to student life at Rice University. Second, we will uphold our commitment to service by partnering with other student organizations, Rice Alumni, and the Houston business community to participate and sponsor in philanthropic events that benefit charitable veteran and military organizations.
- Provide transition support, leadership guidance, resume advice, and networking opportunities to all veterans attending Rice University.
- Raise money for charitable veteran and military service organizations.
- Provide an opportunity for all Rice students to network with veterans in business and to participate in fund raising efforts that support charitable veteran organizations.
- Build a strong academic, professional, and personal support network among Rice alumni and the veteran community at Rice University.
